The New York Times – Modern-day Times Square, located at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue, is one of New York City’s busiest tourist attractions, filled with iconic towering billboards and brightly lit advertisements. But its original name was Long Acre Square, and it wasn’t until 1904 that the spot was renamed Times Square, in honor of the construction of the New York Times headquarters. This still-recognizable Gothic structure was the city’s second-tallest skyscraper at the time, measuring 430 feet tall. Before moving into the new headquarters in January 1905, publisher Adolph S. Ochs threw a New Year’s bash to commemorate the building, a Times Square tradition that continues today. The newspaper operated out of the Times Square location until 1913, when it moved to a larger location a block away on West 43rd Street, where it remained for almost 100 years. Today the headquarters are at the nearby New York Times Building, which was completed in 2007.:
